On Tuesday we joined 130 other children at The King’s School, Ely for an wonderful Choral Day. Dominic Peckham, the inspirational choir leader who works with both children and adult choirs world-wide, was leading the day. He started by teaching the children about posture and breathing before moving on to teach the children four different a cappella songs from four different countries before the children moved to the Cathedral to perform a concert attended by parents who were also encouraged to join in.
Mr Peckham chose a unique way to warm up the children; by not using his voice at all, but by starting to click his fingers until the children began to copy him. He maintained this for about twenty minutes incorporating physical, rhythmical and vocal warm ups without addressing the children at all, they just copied him.
Our Captain of Music, Grace, enthused about the day saying that it had been an amazing experience to perform in such a magnificent (and big!) cathedral with such a large choir and all the Moreton Hall pupils who took part had come back buzzing with what they had achieved that day.
