U12 Girls

Knowing we had to step up our game from county finals  we arived at Redbridge Sports Centre in London ready to play.  We were up against six other counties from East Anglia, most of which were comprised of players from Year 9.  We started well against Norfolk winning 3 out of 4 singles matches.  This gave us confidence even though the level of the opponents had increased greatly from previous matches. Maria won 6-0, Frankie won 6-2, I had a close match winning 7-6 from a tiebreak and then Zynia played a highly skilled opponent bravely going down 6-7. We also won our doubles; Zynia and Maria winning 6-2 and Frankie and I winning 6-1 against the 2 and 3 seeds.

In the semi-finals we were against Hertfordshire playing St Albans, a school consisting of 210 girls per year! We battled hard but lost all our singles matches. Zynia and Maria won their doubles 7-5 but Frankie and I lost 6-2 to the 2nd and 3rd seed after a good fight.

We then played against Cambridgeshire  (St Ivo School) in the play-off for 3rd and 4th place. We played short sets and Zynia won 4-0, Maria won 4-0, I won 4-1 and Frankie won 4-2 leaving us in 3rd place overall.

Thank you to Mr Bolt for coaching, Ed and Mr James for supporting and Mrs Allen for driving. Girl of the tournament goes to Zynia for battling some really good players. St Albans then went on to win the tournament.

The first match was against Hertfordshire. In the singles we won 3 and lost 1. We then went on to the doubles and with both teams playing really well together won these matches comfortably. This meant we beat Hertfordshire 5-1.

Our next match, was the semi- final, and was against Norfolk who had, had a bye through the first round. We again won 3 of our singles matches and lost 1. We then had the doubles and both teams played even better, winning both matches which meant we beat Norfolk 5-1 and had made it through to the Eastern Region Final!!

The Final was against Essex. We started with 4 very close singles matches of a very high standard which were shared 2 – 2. So it then all came down to the doubles. Despite both pairs fighting really hard we sadly lost both doubles matches. This meant that Essex beat us 4-2.

Man of the match goes to the whole team for leaving everything out on court. Huge thanks to Mr. Bolt for getting us this far in the competition also to Mr. James for driving us to all our fixtures.
