U12 Boys triumph in Suffolk Schools Tennis – finals here we come!

Posted on Monday, 19th June 2017 in Match Reports

It felt like the Wimbledon finals at Old Buckenham Hall it was so tense!
After the first round we were down 1-2 on matches so we needed to win two matches to take us to a sudden death tie break. James and Kit won their doubles match but Merlin lost his singles match meaning that Wilf must win now or else we would be out of the tournament. He was staring at defeat on two occasions but oh boy did he dig deep and turn it around and won! He was physically and mentally exhausted! Then it was straight into the sudden death tie break – first to 10 wins. Wilf was still recovering so Merlin and James played, both having lost their earlier games and they played the game of their lives, Moreton Hall Prep 10 – OBH 3. Moreton Hall are through to the county finals!!!!

From the Captain…

We were all nervous about playing because if we won then we would be through to the county finals.

Kit won his singles 6-1 and I lost mine 6-1.  Wilf and Merlin unfortunately lost their doubles 6-2 giving OBH a 2-1 lead going into the second half of the day.

We had to win two out of the three matches to draw and three out three to win.  Kit and I won our doubles 6-2 and Merlin lost his singles 6-2 leaving it all up to Wilf to get Moreton Hall into a doubles tie-break for the win.  Wilf put in an amazing performance, playing out of his skin to win 7-6.

After this unbeleivable perseverance we had to play a doubles tiebreak to ten. It was Merlin and I versus OBH’s 1 and 3.  We won the doubles 10-3 and got through to the finals!

Thank you to Mr James for driving and Mr Bolt for coaching.  Man of the match goes to Wilf because of his perseverance.  Special mention to Ed for helping us prepare as well.

James, Captain of Tennis
